Holding its roots in the sixteenth century Italian lottery, bingo has traveled a long way before it evolved into the game we know today!
Originally the game was played with the slips of paper that had numbers written on them. Since there were no automatic machines to draw the bingo numbers, the players in the earlier time used the wooden discs with numbers written on them. And these wooden discs were drawn from bag of cloth or a box of cigars. And as these numbered wooden discs were drawn, the players matched the bingo numbers on their paper slips by covering the numbers with the dried beans.
In the initial part of its evolution, these games were popularly played under the tent set-up at the carnivals. As the time passed by and the game of bingo grew, these wooden discs were replaced by the bingo balls. These balls were placed in a cage door and so, the bingo caller used to open the door of the cage to draw the bingo balls and announce the bingo numbers one by one. But the players still used the dried beans or cardboard chips to cover the numbers as they were called out. However, eventually the bingo cards with the shutters or sliders made of heavy cardboard like material were used. Each of these planks of cardboard had the numbers printed in deep-set sunken slots. So, whenever a number was called out the players would slide the shutter to cover the number.
Then came the electronic chambers where the balls were mixed and then extracted one by one by the bingo caller through an air tube. The numbers drawn were electronically highlighted on the card. And for the players to mark the called out numbers on their bingo cards, bingo daubers came into existence.
The game was fully automatized when the land-establishments of the revolutionized to the online bingo rooms. These online games run on the high-tech software tools thus flaunting the auto-play and the auto-daubing features. From internet, bingo games slowly made a shift to the mobile bingo that allowed the players to play bingo from anywhere and everywhere.
The game of bingo has traveled so far and have changed so much over the years but one thing that has and will never change is the fun that the bingo games offer!
